Book Review: The Legends Of Khasak by O V Vijayan

A story or perhaps an epic that has quite literally been around me for so long but one I was never fortunate enough to experience until now. I have been busy exploring mystic realism and having a tryst with Murakami novels that I never got to experience the pure and raw goodness O.V.Vijayan had weaved together.

The story flowed like a river with magic and mystery surrounding the village of Khasak floating by. What makes this novel so special to me is that although the plot is fictional, the setting is very much real and near my hometown in Palakkad.

There is a Ravi in everyone of us; one who runs away from something whether it's a mistake, a regret, or even the harsh reality of life. Even with many around, the Ravi in us is all alone, vulnerable and shattered. And the painful fact is that what we are running away from, why we are doing so, or to where we are heading mostly remains unanswered.

The novel had a charm that held my attention like no other. Although regretful for not reading this novel before, as years pass, this will certainly be a novel close to my heart.
